ADDRESSING STRESS AS AN UNDERLYING CAUSE OF YOUR PATIENT'S ILLNESS

As an MD – whether Naturopathic, Integrative, or Allopathic – you are aware of the role Stress plays as a root cause of many illnesses (NIH studies suggest 85%). This is especially so for those "hard-to-treat" long-term immune-deficiency diseases like cancer, candida, lyme, fibromyalgia, etc. You are also aware that treating stress – other than with pharmaceuticals – takes more time than most physicians have available to spend with each patient.

Jennifer Hewat, B.S, RN, OCN, HTCP, founder of Wholistic Healthcare, is familiar with this dilemma. Professionally, as Nurse Manager of a Gynecologic Oncology surgical practice, she had to manage the patients' stress before, during and after surgery. (The surgeon had great skill, but an abrupt bedside manner, so emotional repair was a daily part of her job!) Personally, she learned – during a decade of finding her way through systemic candida – two therapies that contributed enormously to her recovery: Healing Touch and Emotional Freedom Technique.

This page gives background on these therapies, and on why referring patients whose health you believe is being compromised by stress or unresolved emotional issues may be in their best interest, and in yours.

The benefits to your practice include:

  • Increased patient satisfaction
  • consequent word-of-mouth promotion and referrals
  • reduced hospital length of stay saving you the "guilt" of not being able to spend the time with them that you know they will need.

Each section describes the therapy's History, Physiology, and Efficacy.
